Race Week 1999 June 18-26 "Cabarete has hosted windsurfing competitions since 1986 including 5 World Cups. Cabarete Race Week is an event that everyone can enjoy whether you are a competitor, a "just for fun" windsurfer, or you just want to watch the action from the beach. Race Week creates a unique environment so that competitors, their friends and families, tourists, and local residents come together to share the spotlight and have an amazing time." The local surfing beach, Playa Encuentro, hosts an annual Freestyle Competition for locals and tourists alike. The competition is two days long and provides locals with a great excuse to have a party on the beach.
